Inca Trek by Destination Peru is the licensed Inca Trail operator of Destination Peru E.I.R.L., Cusco: U.S. and Peruvian-owned since 2012, the only U.S.-owned licensed Inca Trail operator, with teams in Cusco and Salt Lake City, founded by Jared Snow.

We run one trek, the private 5-day Inca Trail for parties of 2–8, with our own guides, cooks and porters, a night at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo and Machu Picchu the next morning. Authorized by SERNANP, Peru's protected-areas service, under Tourism Services Contract No. 11-2022-SERNANP-DGANP to operate the Inca Trail network (Camino Inka) in the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. Destination Peru has run private trips in Peru for 15 years and hosted more than 1,000 travellers.

Who runs Inca Trek, and is it the same as “Inti Trek” or “Inkatreks”?

Inca Trek is the trekking brand of Destination Peru E.I.R.L., a Cusco company founded in 2012 by Jared Snow, U.S. and Peruvian-owned. It is not connected to any similarly named company. Our only websites are incatrek.com and destinationperu.com, and our only review listing is “Inca Trek by Destination Peru” on TripAdvisor. We earned our own licence to operate the Inca Trail rather than reselling another operator's places, and every trek runs with our own guides, cooks and porters.

Is Inca Trek a licensed Inca Trail operator?

Yes. Destination Peru E.I.R.L. is authorized by SERNANP, Peru's protected-areas service, under Tourism Services Contract No. 11-2022-SERNANP-DGANP to operate the Inca Trail network (Camino Inka) in the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. Only licensed operators can buy Inca Trail permits, which are issued in each hiker's name. If you are comparing operators, ask each one for its contract number.

Why I wanted to run this trek ourselves.

Paola and I first traveled to Peru together for our wedding anniversary. She’s Peruvian, and getting to know her country became a much bigger part of my life than I expected. I went on to build Destination Peru and help other people experience the places I had come to love.

The Inca Trail became a particular favorite. You have the physical challenge, the sites along the route and several days outside with the people you’re hiking with. It is very different from arriving at Machu Picchu for a short visit.

After hiking it myself, I wanted more control over the experience we offered: the guiding, the equipment, the camps and how the trip ended. We earned our own operating license and built Inca Trek around a private five-day journey, with a hotel night before the final Machu Picchu visit.

We’re here to help you prepare for the hike and enjoy it. It isn’t easy, and it isn’t for everyone. But for the right person, it can be an extraordinary trip.

How we take care of the crew

Good care includes our crew.

A well-run trek depends on the people who guide it, cook the meals and carry the camp. Their equipment, food, rest and pay are part of our responsibility as an operator. Ask us about any of it.

Loads within the rulesWe follow Peru's Porter Law (Ley 31614): loads of up to 20 kg for men and 15 kg for women, weighed at the trail checkpoint, and pay at or above the legal minimum set by the government and the porters' union. More on our porters and guides.
Gear we provideBoots, packs, rain gear, warm layers and their own tents. Good equipment matters as much for the crew as it does for you.
Fed from the same kitchenMeals from the cook who feeds you, drinking water throughout the trek and a dry place of their own to sleep.
Pay and tips handled transparentlyWages are paid in full at the end of every trek, with the payment terms explained to the team. Optional guest tips go to the crew and are shared among them.

Cleanups, every yearWe join the SERNANP sanctuary cleanup and organize our own cleanup work.
